Triathlon first timmer

Hola,
I am 39 and will complete my first tri on June 2, 2007. I need all-around advice from experienced triathletes on triathlons, training, forums and websites. My target is the Mooseman triathlon (Half Iron or International) in Bristol, NH.
Chao,
Michael

Welcome Michael, what type of shape are you in now and what area of triathlon is your worst and what is the best? This will give us a place to start, and we can help to put you on the right track. The Olympic versus the Half distances is huge so you should pick one now so the training is right because as my friend Scott will attest, these races are way different. As a side note to begin your education, find out as much about the venue as you can, i.e. maps, weather conditions, what is offered on the course and reputation of the race directors.
Again welcome and lets get going!
Spike.

Spike,
Thanks for the reply. I am in decent shape. In the past I have done half a marathon, played soccer, mountain bike, and hiked. Today, I have not done much in the past 8mo to a year; but I know I can get going quickly. My worst even will be the swim and the best the run. I am more comfortable on a bike that in the pool.
I live in Austin and plan to sign up with training groups and for tri-sprints.
Michael

Michael, if your worst event is the swim (mine too), I found the book and DVD of Total Immersion a great assett, the only thing that still is a problem for me is the breathing but that is a kink that I'm working out. With the weather in Austin you should be ready to go out and ride most days, start out with short rides with varried intesities i.e. hill climbing, sprinting, and recovery. As your legs get use to this lengthen the rides all the way up to your race distance and put the brick training in.
Happy training and let us know what race(s) you are entered in and when.
Spike.
