Try the tri?

Hi! I'm a 34 year old female who is thinking of trying a sprint triathalon next summer. I am in decent shape 5'8", 160...but haven't been going to the gym and working out like I should. (I jopined the "Y" yesterday!) Last week a friend of mine told me about a tri she was thinking about doing next summer and it really piqued my interest. Then another frined asked be if I wanted to go to Peru with her next summer and climb the Incan Trail (Macchou Piccu). So, I feel like fate is talking to me telling me to get back in great shape. Looking for good ideas on a good workout routine. I haven't yet searched this whole site. Are there posts on beginners' rountines and the like? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks- E

E,
Peruse the site and you should find some descent training suggestions as well as a lot of really good general Tri advise. This is my favorite support & camaraderie site. You may want to check trinewbies.com as well. Good luck and if you need a Sherpa to haul your gear in Peru… :)

E~
There's a lot of information and support on this site. There's also triathletes of all levels here, so we can probably answer most of your questions, if not we can direct you on where to find the answer. Everyone here is so nice, also. Its almost like you've got your own support group. I tell people that I've got my "team" for my Ironman training, my husband and kids, my chiropractor, accupunturist, my local bike store/mechanic, my coach (also owns my local running store), and my triweek buddies! :)

The programs outlined in Eric Harr's Triathlon Training In Four Hours a Week and Terry Laughlin's Total Immersion are more than enough... IMO.

Both books can be found on all the major internet book retailer sites.
