first time triathlete

Howdie. My name is Aaron and I am new to all of this triathlon stuff. I ran track in junior high (and actually ran a sub 5 min mile when i was 14 yrs old) but gave up running for football, baseball, hockey, and golf. Last year, which was my junior year in high school i got real about life and realized that I had waisted precious time and talent and went out for track again. The following fall I ran cross country, then gave up high school hockey ( which I had played on since I was a freshmen) and ran all through the harsh Wisconsin winter, having a few frostbite scares. My training buddy and I let no weather conditions stop us! Now I am running in track and want a break from the impact. I enjoy swimming and biking and am ready for a new post-high school/ lifelong sport that can fulfill my need to compete and stay fit. So here I am, and I can't wait for my first tri!

Welcome to the site and the life, I too am a hockey player (started at 7 in N. Dak, and still play at 45). I have done lots of sports in my life and I am proud to say that I have been at least competative at all of them, but three sports in the same race is like mixing your favorite ice cream with two favorite topings. I started the tri life much later than I would have liked but I'm into it now and hopefully well into the future. Have you decided on a race yet? distance? location?
If you have any questions ask away.
Spike.

As of right now I plan do to a few sprint triathlons in the central wisconsin area throughout the summer, and am thinking that I'll up the distances for the following summer. I would like to set a goal of completing an ironman in the next three years but am not sure if it is a realistic goal to set when I'll be entering college next fall and will certainly be busy with my schooling.

Maybe when you get to school you will find a Tri club or team to join, and as for the Iron Man, you have got lots of time for that, perhaps you could do one after graduation as a gift to yourself.
Spike.
