| Mind, Body and Spirit Greetings to you Tri-minded folks,
I am new to this site, but I've enjoyed many of the posts. This is my fourth year Tri-ing. I have discovered something very inspiring and fulfilling in Triathlon compitition. At all levels the individual is challenged to finish, incouraged to excell to their personal best and inspired by the achievements of the athletes around them. I was introduced to this sport by a friend that has been competing for nearly 20 years...he's now in his 70's. This man is 20 years my senior and I am consistantly awed by his energy and example. By the way, he and his wife just returned from the Hawiian Ironman and are planning on going back.
I find myself needing to focus mentally in training and compitition to achieve any improvement. Learning technique, nutrition, stratagy etc.. Some of you are gifted genetically with a body type and physicality that naturally responds to the rigors of the sport. I however am sensitive to the challenge of working with my body. Regardless of natural ability, we all must be careful to avoid injury while pushing our bodies to our personal limits. The most fulfilling aspect of this sport for me is the Spirit aspect. I find myself Inspired by the competitors around me...That's you folks out there doing this sport with a passion. There is definatly something contageous about the sport of Triathlon. I've found that the long hours of training and the rigors of raceing offer me a great enviorment for prayer. |
