hello from RI

Hello from... Rhode Island.

I'm moving to the Newport area next month for school, and I want to train so that I can do the Try the Tri series in Colt Park in Bristol next summer.

I've never done this kind of thing before. I'm moderately overweight- 190 lbs- but I've been in decent shape in the past (sounds funny, saying the past and I'm only 23). I bike a lot, go to the gym 5 times a week and do cardio and weight lifting.

I don't know where to start, but at least I have a goal and a place to start.

Are there any clubs in RI near Newport or Bristol?

Sexylifter, (cool screen name) I have found that a good place to start is in the pool (it's ironic that the races start in the water :)) If your school has a pool and you have access to it this would be a huge benifit to you. As for the clubs in that area check with the athletic dept. when you get there and see if the college has one, also you can check with local rec. centers or the YMCA. The best training program that I have personally done is to put each dicipline on different days of the week and get comfortable with each. When this is done then you can start to combine them, then lengthen the workouts to either race distance or slightly more so the race seems short and you have fuel left in the tank at the end. Since your goal race is not until next summer you have lots of time to sort out your training schedule and nutritional needs, it sound like you are a exercise junkie like the rest of us and I have a feeling you will do great at Tri's. This is an awsome site for info!!! I hope this helps.
Good Luck.
Spike.
