Hi everyone :0)
Have just started to get into the whole triathlon thing and thought signing up with this site might help keep me inspired... Don't have much of a competitive sporting background (have tried most sports just for fun) however have been getting into long distance running over the past year... Loved the thrill of the race and always keen for a challenge so thought I would give the tri a go! Will look forward to chatting with other newbies and would appreciate any advice from the more experienced athletes down the track =0)
Annie, the competition that I find most rewarding is the one that I have with myself, better times and fewer injurys. I love to slay the doubt dragon, when my legs feel heavy and my lungs are burning, I just need to top the next rise before I take a break is what keeps me going and knowing that the dragon is way behind me and can't catch up. Being a runner you know what I'm talking about, you just need to pick up the bike and swim parts and you will be an your way.
Happy training.
Spike.
Hi Daphne :0) Nice to meet you! I am currently a bit undecided on an event however am leaning towards a duathlon in Newcastle NSW in early August (try outs are in June / July?) as I am not much of a swimmer... have been trying to get down to the pool 3 - 4 times a week just to get a feel for the water but think I may have a way to go! - You look to have a lot of experience with the whole triathlon thing... what are you training for at the moment?
Welcome to the group Annie,
Good to hear you've got the Tri bug. With your running background you'll pick up the bike very easily. But in case you haven't already, I would recommend hooking up with a swim coach once or twice for some basics to establish good habits from the get go. Swimming is so much more about technique than the other sports, it's really beneficial to get that initial guidance.

Hi Spike =0)
I have to agree there is nothing more rewarding than overcoming a personal challenge... I definitely found that compared to team sports, the high of overcoming the mental and physical challenge of running is something that I've become addicted to! I can't wait until I'm up to speed with the swim and bike leg so I can start competing - but I guess getting there is half the fun! ;0)
Hello Michael >:)
Thanks for the tip - your advice is greatly appreciated :0) Yes, think I will have to look at getting a swim coach - swimming is definitely my biggest hurdle at the moment - Haven't had much chance to do a lot of it growing up so will take a bit of getting used to... Have to say that I am loving the bike though (except for the sore bum that is! LOL) and being able to actually compete... Thanks for the encouragement!
