Quick note to introduce myself....

Ran my first marathon last Oct - Cape Cod Marathon - 4 hours 30 minutes. Won't win any speed records but love the long run. Will be running it again this year. Would like to try a Sprint Triathalon this Spring. The running and the swimming shouldn't be a problem but I know the biking will be. I have a bike that has no speeds and I put on my brakes when I go down a hill if I start going too fast. I'll be lurking behind the scenes reading all the messages and finding out what I should be doing, what equipment to buy, etc. Just bought Eric Harr's book on Triathlon Training. I'd like to someday do an Ironman....we'll see! After running the marathon I've become addicted to endurance training/sports. Could be something to do with being a stay at home mom to twins. The longer the runs/races...the more time I get to spend away from my house!! (just kidding...sort of!).

Welcome M2M, the best advice I can give you about a bike is the same as I once got, spend a little extra money up front and you should not have to keep on spending, however, upgrades are always fun and give your family something to get you for holidays. If you are going to do IM's you better have a bike with several gears, good luck and take care.
Spike.

welcome! If you run marathons I wouldn't stress over the bike too much. I agree with spike. Spend a little extra up front (around $1000-1500) Canadian. This will get you something that is reliable and you won't fell like your bike is slowing you down too much. Also make sure you get some tips from the store you buy it from on maintaining it. A well maintained bike will treat you well for a long time!
Good Luck,
Syd
