Intro

Greetings,

Let's see, where to start :). Way back in 1982 I watch Julie Moss' epic finish in Hawaii and told myself that one day I'd do an Ironman. During the timeframe after that I did some sprint distance triathlons in the Florida pan handle while I was stationed at Eglin AFB. This was back in the day when you had Scott DH bars and down tube shifters :).

Fast forward to late 2004 and and my coworker goes down for Ironman Florida and does not finish :(. He had finished that Ironman twice in the past. Somehow he, another coworker, and I came up with the crazy idea of doing the Rock and Roll half Ironman in Macon, GA in June of this year. We've already decided to add a Marathon next April (my 45th birthday) and either Ironman Florida or the Great Floridan Ironman distance triathlon next year.

When I last did triathlons I did OK on the swim and bike and sucked on the run so that's the area I'll be concentrating on the most in my preparations for the triathlons this and next year. I'm looking forward to learning from you all here on the forums. I've read some of the race reports and they're fanstasic motivators! The next couple of years are going to be interesting to say the least :)

welcome to triweek and enjoy the ride :-)

btw- I suck at the run too. I end up with a terrible overall time because of the run.

Greetings to all,

A fellow tri-friend steered me to the site. VERY INTERESTING! I have been in Triathlon for the last 17 going on 18 years. And still married to the same woman. She has supported my passion/obsession with all her heart. I am a mid to back of the packer who thinks he knows his place in the great pecking order of life. I am 56, have been retired for three and a half years, and am not slowing down (except on the run) for anything. Please don't take my responses as something coming from a know-it-all. Far from it, but I have made lots of mistakes in my training over these years. I hope that I can prevent someone else from doing the same!

I purchased a Computrainer almost 5 years ago, and that one thing has helped me the most on the bike. My wife talked me into a Endless pool last year, and that has helped my swimming tremondously. I am serious about Triathlon because it makes me live for the moment wheather it's during training or racing.

I look for the post of the Rock 'n Roll Man in GA. Have resistered and want more info on the bike/run course. I saw the profile of the bike and it looks to be brutal. I train in the same heat/humidity enviro so it should be a fun race. I will look forward to meeting some of you in person some day. For now ride safe. C U on the road. The Capt

Capt Mice: Welcome!

There's a little bit of a discussion about the hills on the bike ride over in this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Hey Zack, Thanks for the welcome
. I am having trouble reurning to this site so bear w/me. I am entered in the R&R and look forward to coming up. I made reservation at the Fairfield Inn so I have a room early. The profile of the bike course is nice. I wonder what the longest/steepest climb is? What percent grade? Doesn't really matter, just head down and crank! Got a 65 miler scheduled for tomorrow if the wx will cooperate. I am trying to build my base early in the season this year. In the past I have waited till May or june to start going long. I am entered in the Lotto draw for IM Hawaii again so if they pull me in Apr I will have a small jump on the training.

As close as you are, will you do PowerMan AL? Its April 10 in Birmingham. Tough run and ride! I have never done this one so I hope that I'm not last. But then so what! Good luck in your training. C U on the road...The Capt
