Any recommendations on the rough percentage of calories consumed per day from fat/carbo's/protein for a triathete training year round?
I'm trying to drop 5 lbs in 5 months for next year's tris, but am unable to find any good info on what is recommend for athletes. Any references or sites with info would be great.
Thanks,
Corey
Hi Corey, to be honest speaking from personal experience I just try not to eat to much crap drink plenty of water, and the training you will be doing( if you are just starting out) the weight will just fall off, and you can pretty much eat what you like.
Again this is just from my experience.
Good Luck
Cheers
Julian.
"Experts" disagree widely on proper dietetic combinations for athletes. I think they're all right to some degree. Because your goal is so little over so long, I wouldn't stress over it. If you excercise enough, so long as you regulate the simple sugar and refined Carb intake, your body will find it's ideal race weight. 5 lbs will melt off like hot butter with a little increase in intensity and mileage at your current caloric consumption. As Julian suggests, good proper hydration helps greatly. Good luck!

This might be a place to start. It's the new US government guidelines for nutrition. There's an article in this months Runners World for tips on using the guide.
I think the book Food for Fitness by Chris Carmichael is a great guide. In the book you will find ratios for carbs/protein/and fat for different periods of your training.
Also, one pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. Your daily deficit (including calories expended during exercise), must be 117 calories to lose a pound a month.
