Heart Rate Monitor

Hi,

Need some advice - I don't know which heart rate monitor to get - I am training for Wildflower and need a decent one for using on a bike trainer, and on the road - both running and road riding. Anyone have any suggestions?

Doin Wildflower also! MTB sprint!

It all depends how "techie" you want to get. The more info you receive about your training the better equipped to make changes geared towards improvement!

If you want on the bike info? (cadence, power, etc) I think its the 810, which kicks ass but is a 2nd hobby in itself to learn, download, etc

Good luck in Wildflower!!!!

Look at the Polar 510 - It has all the bike functions, ability to upload, etc. I think the 410 is similar, but without the upload functions if you don't care about that

510:

I just posted about HRMs in the Running forum. I've heard good things about Sports Instruments HRMs, so I'd definitely check them out. I find the Polar ones bulky and ugly. Nike makes some sexy looking ones but I've yet to see a positive review.

Good luck and make sure you post when you buy one. I'd like to hear about your experience.

I have the Polar 720i and have been very pleased with it as a HRM. It also works well for lap times, speed, and intervals. It DOES NOT work well tracking and reporting distance real time during the ride. The software is pretty good and gives you everything you need. I'm going on my 2nd year and haven't had any problems with it. My ride is often near power lines (heavy duty) which sometimes interferes with the readings (my HRM reports that my HR is 220 bpms!). It's about a $300 item. Just my opinion on it.

I agree with I'm hooked. I have the Polar s720i and it works fine for me. Bought it on ebay new for around $200. If I had it to do all over again, I might consider the Timex Time & Distance System with HRM function. I get tired of running the same old routes and it would be great to know how far and what the pace was in addition to my HR. I use on older TDS without HRM when I travel and it gets old wearing both watches after a couple of hours. Good luck.
