I just did my first sprint Tri on a hybrid/mountain bike, Specialized Hard Rock (I think it's 97 or 98) with smooth tires and did pretty good (bike rank 430 out of 2612). But I am thinking I could do much better with a road bike.
However, I don't know anything about road bikes.
Could you recommend a reasonably priced road bike for a female beginner?

I've added 23mm tires and some aero bars to my hybrid and that seems to have worked well for the most part. I'd check with a few of your local bike stores to see not only what they carry, but what fits you best. They should have someone that can do a bike fitting as well to make sure you get a proper fit.

So you basically converted your hybrid to a road bike? I was thinking about doing this, but wasn't sure if it would be cost effective or if it would even be recommended. I'm doing my first Tri on my Giant mountain bike. I had it tuned up and I put slicks on it. Could I conceivably convert it to a road bike by changing the bars? I'm not sure of the angles of the seat post for mountain bikes vs. road bikes vs. tri bikes. Anyone know?
