I am tired of having sore girly parts after I ride. I'm riding with the saddle that came with my bike. Is there a seat that won't make me cringe after a couple of hours on the bike? I can sacrifice a few ounces on weight. Also, is there a way to sit that prevents soreness?
How far are you riding?
Do you want a race saddle?
Does your saddle have a center cutaway in the middle?
I would recommend a Serfas, which is what I use and love, or a Terry. Terry saddles are renowned for their comfort and for their performance. The website for the saddles is [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], or find a Terry dealer on that website. My Serfas was $90 and worth every penny. Also, your local bike store (LBS) will normally let you "test drive" a saddle and if you don't like it, bring it back.
Also, try Chamois Butter. This helps with the chaffing and less friction.
Have you been professionally fitted for your bike? Your seat could be off kilter or too far back/forward. That might help as well.
Good luck, chica, and have fun buidling up those sit bones!
Thanks for the advise! I definately need to invest in a new saddle or more children may be out of the question!
I was professionally fitted for my bike but I've been thinking about going again. I got my bike new when I first got into cycling in January and now that I have a few miles under my belt I think I ride a bit differently than when I started.
I don't have any chafing problems (I swear by BodyGlide) -- it's just the "sore spots" from sitting on a glorified stick for hours on end that get to me!
Thanks again -- it's great to have a girl who understands out there! :)
One last thing...If you're not wearing bike shorts, you should. The pad and lack of seams will make a big difference and then of course the height of your saddle and tilt will make a difference in comfort. It's totally worth getting a professional fit. Besides eliminating the discomfort you're having, you'll pick up some power as well.
