I am interested purchasing a bike trainer for this winter. Any recommendations or suggestions as to what I should look for is greatly appreciated.
thanks.
I enjoy my CycleOps Fluid II and train on it all year long. In the summer I'll get up before dawn, ride and then run (this commonly referred to as a Brick). A trainer is certainly a worth while investment. I do recommend a fluid trainer. They're smoother and and provide more constant resistance than a magneto or air resistance trainer. Ebay is a good source by-the-way.
I, too, have a CycleOps Fluid II. I usually only use it in the winter when there's a foot of snow on the ground (Scott, this doesn't apply to you!) but, it is a great trainer for year round use. Ebay is a great place to find them, also look at "rollers". My best friend has a roller trainer and let me tell you it whooped my butt! Get the fork stand for it, if you get one (and a sweat mat!). Best of luck!
Any word on the cycle ops II fluid trainer leaking? People that are out there, what are your opinions toward each of these brands, what is preferred, why, etc. I am ready to buy one but I am still doing some research.
thanks
Personally, I'd recommend the Kurt Kinetics for fluid trainers. Their units are sealed so they're not prone to leaking and they have an excellent warrenty.
I've had mine for years with no problems and a rediculous amount of miles on it.
