getting on

do you get on/off the bike in the transition area (@ the rack) or must you carry it from the rack to the bike entrance/exit?

depends on the safety of the corse and the rules of individual events. last year USAT required dismount and mount lines outside transition, this year they removed that rule (i like the safety of dismount lines). thus it is best to listen to the pre race announcements. and if not mentioned ask the question when they ask ' any questions'. good luck, i recommend practicing using a dismount line as it can be tricky to do so with bike shoes on at speed with other bikers attempting the same trick.

Most races have you mount/dismount outside of the transition area. I have never done a race that was any other way.
