Froggy, Im not sure how much you want to spend but I personally like Trek, (the 1000 starts around $550) but you need to make sure no mater what brand you choose, the bike must be comfortable. If your ride is uncomfortable in any way, even a sprint distance can seem like a million miles. A good bike shop will let you test ride any bike they sell and will help set you up on the fit.
Good luck I hope this helps
Spike.

I agree with Spike10. I rode a Trek 1000 for over 3 years and it was my first bike bought specifically for triathlons. It is certainly a work horse, is extremely reliable and durable. I believe the 1000 now comes with a carbon fork and Ulterga components. It would be a good starter bike for you and the price is right. Good luck!
