I have not had that type of strain before, but I have had plenty of main body muscle pulls from playing hockey. It will take a while to heal but you can still train on a limited basis, you can go by the old saying "If it don't hurt, your fine", just be carefull when pushing the breathing. Do plenty of streaching before and after your sessions, and I know it sounds harsh but ice does wonders. Just listen to what your body is telling you and if you feel the twinge of the pull comming on, back down from what you are doing and go in a different direction (keep that muscle guessing) :)
