Hello,
I'm new to Tri's. Currently I workout about 12 hours a week. My time is divided with about 3 hours of biking, 2 hours of swimming, 4 hours of running and 3 hours of weight training. All training is indoors now with the exception of running since I live in Canada. During the build up to race season my biking increases to about 6 hours, running about 4 hours and swimming about 3 hours. I haven't trained with weights during a training season but I may try to do it this year since I want to do longer distances. I have done short distance tri's, short distance du's and 5, 10, and half marathon running. I guess if I had to pick my strongest sport it would be biking, followed by running, and finally swimming. Next season I am hoping to do a couple of longer distance races (1/2 ironman du's, half marathon races, and a full marathon in the fall). I hope this helps your school project. Oh, you might want to compare age/genders in your poll...I'm 41 and female.

Sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. It's kind of disappointing to see the lack of response you are getting. As helpful as fellow triathletes are, I figured they'd be all over this. It's for school.

Training for Sprint triathlons. 8-10 hours/week. Every 4th/5th week (last week of the month) is half that time, and is a recovery week. The first week of the month is 8 hours [getting back into it after a recovery week], 2nd week is 10, 3rd week is 10, etc, with the last week of the onth being 4-5 hours (as I already mentioned).

I train 16-20 hrs a week. The training is mostly for fitness, but I am thinking about doing an ironman just for fun.

I personally train between 24 and 30 hrs. a week depending on the time of year in order to prepare the body for a peak performance. This is how much training is going in for an Ironman (2.4mi.swim; 112mi.bike; 26.2mi.run) most training is done at approx. 75-85% of max heart rate. But will often reach 90-95% of MHR. For most people there maximum heart rate is about 205 or so beats per minute. I hope this helps you on yur project.
