EnduranceLog alpha version is out

Hi everyone,
:bannana: Just got the alpha version out on the web woohoo
It's fairly limited, but I'd really appreciate any and all feedback with regards to it and what you see as the "must have" feature.
Go check it out -> [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
cheers,
Siggi

Viewing Other Peoples Logs

Hi, I enjoy the online logs, looks great so far!

One suggestion.

Possibly, you could have an option to make your logs public/private and have a seperate list if you want to view other peoples logs. Also, logs that haven't been updated in 31 days can be considered "Inactive" and be taken down from the public log list so we don't have to scroll through outdated, unactive logs.

Love the site and hope it keeps going in the right direction. I'll post more feedback later.

Again, thanks so much for the site. I love it!

Hi Zylo,

And thanks for the positive feedback :)

The public/private feature is definetly something that will be implemented. I agree that a lot of people would want their logs to be private. Until then I just went for the more simple solution of the user being autoselected when he/she logs in. That way you don't have to wade through a long list of users to get to your data.

I like the idea of auto-pruning inactive users. I'll have to add that to my list of things to implement.

Don't forget to vote on the next set of features (user selectable public/private option is one of them ;) )

cheers,
Siggi

It seems like a good start. I like what I see, but I'd like to see where site's going -- at least more than just near-term features. I don't want to sound critical, but here are my 2 cents. I currently keep my log in MS Excel; previously, I was using paper and pencil. At this point, I don't see the advantage of keeping a log on-line. Maybe the log can integrate with coaching or virtual coaching (like trainingbible.com). Or, perhaps you could provide content as a function of training duration/intensity, etc. To me, it's hard to get (and keep) users unless it's got some real value to keep them coming back.

Thanks wannatri,
I appreciate the feedback.

I think you are right in that there is no point of keeping an on-line log if it doesn't give you any benefits over excel or paper and pencil. I'd say that right now the endurancelog is about on par with the paper and pencil method (maybe a bit less user friendly ;) ). Hopefully with the next release we can go a bit further than that, maybe close to excel :)

I also think that on-line training logs work best when they can be incorporated into a site that already is centered around a community, e.g. a tri club, where it would be an added benefit of the site. It's much harder to make a good virtual coaching site like trainingbible.com, although setting up something like that had crossed my mind when I first started the project. I still think that I might do that at some point, but the main focus will be the development of the training log itself for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps in a few releases when it has well surpassed excel feature wise there will be more people actually using it on my site (besides me and a couple of my friends), but equally important to me would be to have a bunch of running-/biking-/tri-/whathaveyou-clubs offering it to heir own members on their own sites.

Version 0.2 is out and about.
Some significant changes:
  • Weekly/Monthly Totals
  • Simple plotting capabilities
  • Simpler Entry, categories now selected through a dropdown rather than a seperate page
  • User preferences for weekly/monthly totals
  • Admin configs for colors for the categories
  • Admin configs for default category for a new entry
  • Admin configs for default/guest weekly/monthly totals

ok, just a quick update for those of you interested.

We are now up to version 0.3 and yes you can now choose to have your log private or public or select the users that can see your log. You can also choose between miles and km for distance and it will automatically calculate the pace for you in your selected distance unit. You can even switch between the two so you are not locked into just using one or the other.

Progress is being made, slowly but surely :)

Which brings me to my question, I've been thinking about the idea of adding some sort of planning feature, but I'm not sure how that should be implemented. There are three different scenarios I can think of:

a) Something like a virtual coach. A program that guides you through setting up your own personalized training plan based on a pre-determine methodology, say something like what is described in the triathletes training bible.

b) You already have a plan and just want to follow it. Enter in the data and off you go.

c) On-line coaching, the coach sets up the training plan and then comments on your workout entries as you follow the plan.

and then there are ofcourse combinations of the three scenarios.

anyone have an opinion on this? or a different scenario to consider?
