I am 55 yo female doing my first sprint tri next month. The order will be run, bike, swim. Is it ok to wear swimsuit with bike shorts for run and bike then just take off shorts for the swim. Also, as a first timer, should I use toe clips/bike shoes or just use my running shoes/reg. pedals. for the bike segment.
Wow!! I've never heard of a tri done in that order!!! ....anyway...congrats on registering for your first race!!!! If I were you I would purchase a pair of tri specific shorts (my favorites are the ones made by Hind and Zoot). The shorts are worn for all three events and have a thin bike pad in them that will not soak up water on the swim, but make the bike more comfortable!! As far as shoes and pedals are concerned, I'd stick with what you know for now and not mess around with the clipless pedals and bike shoes. If you become addicted to tri's ....which is highly likely!!!.... you may then want to invest in clipless pedals and bike shoes. They take some getting used to
but I wouldn't go any other route!!!!!!! Hope you have a blast in your race! Write back when you're done and let us know how it went!!!
Thanks so much for the info. Before I received it I had already decided to wear what you said, just received it in the mail, now to try it out. I have clipless on my bike right now so will try and then decide which way I am more comfortable. Thanks again for the info and will keep you posted.
