Weather troubles ahead

Well the weather does not look too good for my half iron on Saturday. High of 95 degrees. I am going to have to really keep up with the fluids. Anyone have any tips so I don't bonk!

300 calories and (in) 48 oz per hour. Hopefully you've practiced a nutrition and hydration plan LONG before your race. Notice the "in" comment above. I'd take as many calories in fluids as possible foregoing the powerbars, etc. Stay in HR zone <80% or you won't be able to digest your caloric intake.

Have fun and good luck. Please let us know how it goes. Where's your race? Is this your 1st 70.3?

I am doing Steelhead in Michigan. I did it last year also. I trained pretty hard this summer and hope to knock my time down by quite a bit. Thanks for the advice.

If you haven't started already, hydrate yourself now and keep it up, you should be very fermilliar with your bathroom from now until race time.
Best of luck and take a bite out of Michigan.
Spike.

Well in some ways it was the best race in my life. In others it wasn't. The swim went horrible for me. The sun was just right and everytime I went to spot I couldn't see a thing. I got lost about 10 times and was 8 minutes slower than last year. I was extremely mad when I got out of the water and decided to try to push myself the rest of the way. I improved my bike from last year by 5 minutes and my run by 18 minutes. If only I had a better swim. I ended up 5:24 where as last year I was 5:39. So in all it was good. It is a great race I just wish they had more buoys set up to make sighting more easy. I can't wait for the next one! When is your next race.

Great job! That's good enough for top 25%. Congrats on an amazing performance!

IM Louisville is in 3 weeks. This is my last hard week (YEAH). I've totally neglected my training due to home & work commitments but I'm pretty sure I won't die. Slow is the new fast, right :) Swim & bike are off. Run is OK. I hold no hope of a PB but think it'll be a fun race none the less. My son's doing it with me and it will be our first father/son IM. I'm so going to kick his fanny AGAIN.

That is awesome that you guys are doing a father/son race. I ran the Chicago marathon in 2001 with my dad and it was the coolest experience I have ever had. We trained together all summer and it was something I will never forget. Make sure you enjoy it. I am sure it is something your son will never forget. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks! I can promise we'll enjoy it. I have to laugh at your "something I'll never forget" comment. I'm sure my son will not forget his first Ironman either. Not because he's doing it with dad, but because he's doing it on VERY little training. He should have bailed due to an ankle injury but at 20 years old, he is, of course, 10 feet tall and bullet proof. I'm sure he'll finish, allbeit poorly, on sheer determination and pride. Oh to be young...
