I am leaving for a trip to yellowstone and will be gone for 2 weeks. This trip is about 6 weeks from my half-iron. I am planning on doing alot of hiking. If I also do some running do you think this will be enough so that I do not lose too much fitness. Any ideas will help. Thanks.
Run, Forest, RUN! Just bring your shoes, get in two longer (6+) milers and 2 days of speed work for 2-3 miles after a warm up and you won't loose anything significant. Make sure to cool down and stretch afterwords.
Just got back and had a blast. I was unable to run though. I probably could have gotten it in but I was too busy kayaking and fishing. I did do some backpacking at altitude the final 2 days. Got in 7 miles the first day and gained 3000 ft. Second day got in 14 miles (not fun). Got in quite a bit of hiking throughout the 2 weeks also. Tomorrow is the first workout back we'll see how it goes.
