Back in the game

Hi Gang, Spike's back in the game and training my winter butt off, after a few month lay off my entrys for the summer have been mailed and the push begins again. Man do I love the extra endorfin rush after a hard workout :). I have decided what I want to do this season as for how it relates to last years races. Please allow me to ramble a bit.
Last year all I wanted to do was to survive and finish what I started, mission accomplished! My next season (this year) I wanted to be middle of the pack and finish strong, then in the third year be near the front of my age group, well I decided to bag the middle of the pack talk and go for the front this year! Im all geared up minus the wetsuit (I'll rent this year) and training for the front, I will soon be in the pool and buffing up the ole stroke and finding that groove. I know that if I can exit the water with my group and not be sucking wind the rest of the guys will be seeing my rear tire as my strong suit gets me out there, as for the run I hope this year will be injury free and I can run the whole distance. I hope you all are having as much fun as I am in your training for the upcoming season. Until next time.
Spike.

Good on ya!

Way to go Spike! Aiming high is the only way to do it. There is nothing like that first race when you actually feel like you are racing! It changes the whole game.

Myself, I'm going to attempt to kill myself, oops, I mean, two birds with one stone this season. Not only am I going to attempt my first IM, I am also attempting to go get sutiable results to go elite in my race series. This means 12-13 races this year. That number still scares me a bit. Thank god I'm a teacher with the summer off!

Good luck with the training, and keep us updated on how you've done!

Cheers
Syd

Great goals Spike & Syd! Keep us updated on your progresses.

Things are same/same here in the Virgin Islands. I'm writing off the early season in lieu of a building project.

The first race is this Sunday (toughest sprint on the island). I'm just hoping to equal last years performance on this course.

Will keep you posted.

D&*N! That race was hard today. With a combination of general fatigue (6 hours sleep in the last 48 hours) and general lack of fitness, I was really plussed in todays sprint. The seas were extremely rough and there was a kickin' long shore current. Winds were non-cooperative at 20-25 making the bike tough. The heat was on (it always is in the tropics) during the run.

Time: 1:29:03 Position: 5

Way to go Scottie, sub hour and a half aint half bad when you consider the time of year, weather and water conditions and no sleep. It sounds like Starbucks should have been your hydration choice for this one. I still envy your heat, Im still riding to work with a gortex shell with a polar fleece jacket under that and even a polar fleece skull cap under my helmet. It takes about an hour until my toes feel like there not going to crack off, oh well the sun is out and it looks like a great day to do a run at lunch so get some sleep and get yourself back in shape, that Ironman is right around the corner and you can't let your son smoke ya too bad :)
Later Dude.
Spike.

Turns out my sub-par performance was due to the begining of a nasty bug taking hold. Two days of down & out. Blah!

Thanks for the encouragement. You guys are my heros! I'd rather do an Ironman than suffer through one workout in sub 80 weather :)

The weather is a factor but here in CO what will really get ya is the lack of oxygen (or so Im told) I have been here so long I don't feel it but when I go to sea level I only have to breath once every 8 min. or so it seems. My first race of the season is on Fathers Day 6/17 and the weather should be warm and pleasant, man I can't wait.
Spike.
