What It Takes

I'm curious who has seen What It Takes and what did you think?

Weird!

I just recieved the DVD in the mail today! Ha, that is just odd. I might get through it tonight on the trainer, so I'll let you know what I think after I watch it! As long as the scratch that appears to have been caused by a rough delivery doesn't screw things up! It is never good to pick up a DVD case to hear rattling.

Cheers
Syd

Nor bad!

I watched it last night. I enjoued it. I didn't realize that Peter Reid was such an introspective guys. He allways seems so hardcore on the outside. It was also interesting to hear him talk about possibly having a eating disorder!

I would recomend it!
Cheers
Syd

I enjoyed the DVD myself. Many have commented that Peter Reide seems be dealing with depression and may be obsessive-compulsive.

Peter Reid

Yeah, I think he did the right thing retiring when he did. It seems like triathlon, and the competitor in him was starting to have a real negative impact on his life. I don't think the divorce helped.

Hello everyone, PburghSBR here, this is my first post. I've been lurking around here for a few weeks, quite a nice Tri forum you've got going here.

My review of the DVD. I will try not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't had the chance to view it yet.

1. The entire mood of the DVD seemed depressing. Perhaps it was Peter Reid's apparent bout with depression, which was discussed at length. Other than Luke Bell, the other athletes all seemed to have a sense of impending doom. I thought this documentary would be inspiring, something I could watch while on the trainer for motivation. Not so.

2. Too much focus on Peter Reid. This documentary should have either been completely about Peter Reid, leaving everyone else out, or about four triathetes, giving each one equal coverage. Lori Bowden was an afterthought. Albeit she dropped off the triathlon map due to pregnancy, other than her effect on Peter Reid, she didn't get nearly enough coverage

3. Not what I expected at all. This documentary didn't go into the professional's training, daily routines, dealings with sponsors, etc. Other than an encounter with a closed gym due to snow, they didn't show anyone other than peter reid training for more than a minute(who can't decide whether he wants to be alone or with someone while he trains)

4. Needed more race coverage. Not necessarily of the athletes actually racing, but I would have liked to see what goes into their pre-race routines, superstitions, recovery, etc. -more of "what it takes" than "is Peter Reid Depressed or Happy today?"

That's it.
Overall Grade: C- (Glad I got it for free in the mail)

I haven't heard about "What It Takes". I realize after reading this thread it is a DVD. What makes it noteworthy, though?
