Type 1 Diabetic seeking some advice

Hi all -

I am an insulin dependent diabetic who got into triathlon training about two months ago. I wear an insulin pump. I'm trying to connect with other diabetics who wear pumps for some training and racing tips. Do you race/train with your pump on? How do you test your blood glucose during a race? While the long term positive effects of all this exercise are undeniable, especially to a diabetic, I would appreciate any insight any of you may have as to actual details regarding training/racing with diabetes.

Thanks in advance,

L. J.

check out this interview with Brian Foster. he is a type 1 diabetic with an insulin pump who competes in triathlons of distances up to 1/2 ironman. i think he mounts his test meter on his bike. i will try to gt his email and post it on here. congrats on your decision to take up the sport. as a health care professional, i can say that it will make a huge difference in your life.
take care
chris

Type 1 Diabetes.....am I cured?

Hi, I am 7w5d and I have been on insulin for years. Since about 7DPO I have been not taking any insulin. Its like I am cured!!! My dr seems to think that its because I am not eating enough....but on some days I am eating quite a bit, even apple pie and my sugars don't go above 11. Its kinda freaking me out, I am testing sometimes 6 times a day because I have no idea whats going on, I am afraid if I stop testing I will be in the 20's. Anyone else experienced anything like this??
