I would like to see a better home page as I feel the other options are more relevant for people in America and not for those of us who are not based in America. I don't find the addition of photographs in anyway useful but that is just a matter of personal preference. In addition I would like some of the information provided here to be more international in flavour I follow a number of the threads and have found that they seemed to be used by people to have a more personal conversation than I would like to have or for that matter to read. No offence intended but this is not what I come to an international website to find.

Well, personally, I have found a weath of information on this site. I like the comraderie of the triathletes on this site, as it is so pertinent to the world of tri. I like the friendliness of the people on this site and the photos are a nice addition too. If I want cold facts, I have tons of triathlon books to go to. These are real world experiences that people come here for. In that, there will be conversations and tri bonding. No offense was taken, but I also don't plan on changing the way I post messages in order to accomodate.

Heather

It seems that inspite of the message I very carefully wrote offense has been taken, and while the last two respondents have made it clear what they would like, (I don't quite see how you get real world life experiences from a web site since real life experiences seem to happen in the real world) my point was and still is that good web sites try to cater for a number of needs and all that I was suggesting was that my needs were somewhat different from other people on the site. I also suggested that a more international flavour might be good but that point seems to have been missed. I don't object to people having more personal conversations but perhaps the website could provide for that in another way, say developing a thread in which friends can chat. What I had valued about this website up until this point is you could pretty much say what you liked but in light of the last two messages that would not appear to be the case.

I would say that the "real world experiences" are in the eye of the beholder. Let's take for instance, Spike's bad swim or my bonking post. The information gleaned from those "experiences" may be helpful for those breaking into triathlon. Also, the responses and advice that come from such shared "experiences" are hopefully useful for all that view them. I don't particularly see how CarolRawinia has the impression that she isn't free to speak her mind. But, just the same, she has to be ready for input; especially if she's put those words onto a forum. My apologies if I stepped on toes.

Sorry Carol,

Yes I do think some feathers were ruffled. This is a relatively small, more intimate site. I think what Heather and I like about this site is the fact that we can communicate openly, jest, joust and otherwise be, well... personal.

I have a list of dozens of tri-sites (be happy to share them if you'd like) that are perhaps more what you're looking for. I hang out and contibute to this board specifically because of the way it is. Try posting your race times, splits, avg. mph, info on your new bike or any other fact or accomplishment that is significant to you on slowtwitch.com or rec.triathlon and see what response you get. There are dozens of more info filled sites but none with this "human" feel.

Carol, please don't think I'm attacking you. You are correctly responding to a thread that asked what YOU would like to see changed. It was posted by the web master, Robert G (who I have not see on the site in a very long time, by the way). I respect your right and opinion to see changes you'd prefer. I just think there are at least a few of us who prefer it the way it is.

I will admit traffic on the site has been particularly slow lately. It seems the site was down and off line for a few weeks. This may account for the off topic bantering lately. Also, other than the standard rotating articles located at the bottom of the forum home page, there's not a lot of site generated info. Let me say however, that what is there is mostly well written and informative.

So again, I'm sorry to have "pounced" :) Please forgive me. Can we be friends? If I come to New Zealand will you show me around? Better yet, will you fly me to New Zealand? ;)

So... All that said, I have used this site HEAVILY for both reference and support, particularly in my long distance quests. Some of the most helpful Iron & Half Iron Distance insites are posted right here on this forum. I hope it serves you as well as it has me. And, selfishly, I hope the site stays just the way it is :)

Warm Tropical Regards,
